Social networking tools for businesses
Quite interesting to see that the social networking aspect even penetrates the business level.
Just now, at the Lotusphere 2007 in Orlando, 3 major software release were announced involving social networking within a corporate context:
• IBM Lotus Connections - A collection of integrated blogging, social networking and other tools due to ship in the second quarter.
• Quickr – Big Blue’s new content sharing and management software that will also be rolled out in the second quarter. Quickr Personal Edition will enable businesses to securely store and swap content much like the way consumers swap songs and videos; and,
• Lotus Sametime 7.51 – this latest release of IBM’s enterprise instant messaging and Web conferencing application is due sometime in April. New features include point-to-point video, tabbed chat, and integration with Microsoft Office and Outlook.

Especially the release of IBM LOTUS Connections is quite a leap for the corporate social networking acceptance.
Not really surprised by this development, but I am a little anxious to what this will lead. Does this mean that soonly we will be in a social community no matter where we are? And do we really have to be more sociable with our colleagues than the current level? Chatting instead of talking and digital interactivity instead of a normal gossip in the coffee corner?
I do not even want to know what this will do to work-efficiency.
