New British law to fight flogs
While the trend of business-employees blogging about there daily still grows, blogging about your own products under pseudonym might become a legal violation.
BigMouthMedia reports on a new British law, which will take effect on December 31, 2007, prohibits people from posting reviews of their own products under false names. The law applies to all types of product postings, ranging from those of authors who review their own books on Amazon.com to marketers who create phony blogs to promote their products.
Interesting move, but like many marketing and internet fights being fought, this seems to be a solution where marketeers will probably adapt to. New ways of “flogging” (phoney blogging) will soonly be invented to by-pass this law. Furthermore, for now this is bound to England and its digital boundaries are easily trespassed.
The fact that fake blogs are being fought is a good thing, at least the consumer is being made aware of the situation. Whether it has actual effect on the flogging companies… it will be minimal, I guess.
While thinking about it, commenting on another blog and promoting your own site would be something alike, now isn’t it? ^_^
