Blogs & Podcasts score highly as generators of sales leads

click to enlarge: Highly effective lead generation offersPodcasting and blogging are among the most effective marketing tools for generating technology sales leads, according to a new survey.

Among the offers that are “very effective” for generating high-quality leads, according to business technology marketing executives surveyed (pdf summary) by Marketing Sherpa, are blogs and podcasts - the fourth and fifth most popular tools cited, respectively.

  • Free trials were cited most by the surveyed marketers, followed by webcasts and white papers.
  • 35 % of software and ASP marketers rated their corporate blog as highly effective, as did 33 % of technology services firms, where only 19 % of hardware companies said that a corporate blog was effective.
  • About 22 % of software marketers consider podcasts “very effective” lead-generation tools.

This report confirms the trend that more and more companies start using media that can bring them closer to the customer and in return can give the customer more insight in the company.
The testimonial power that both blogs and podcasts have appears to be one of the main reasons for this.
