Everybody needs a Hero… I caught myself realizing that I can really get motivated by people that are an example to me… Ok, so is that bad? No. And Yes.

Let me explain: People you admire, people that are a role-model can be of great influence. They can broaden your horizon, they can help you set new goals, and even help you achieve them… Most of the time they are inspiring without even knowing it. They can be movie stars, top-people in your area of work, people out of physical reach. The thing is this: In what way do they just motivate you, or… and that is the tricky thing, in what way do YOU try to become THEM? Just look around you: There are so many people that have a role-model, but instead of using that role-model as an inspiration, people tend to copy them. They set aside their own unique qualities and start behaving like… Bill… or Ted… or Hillary.

It is so important that we keep our own values and EXTEND en ENRICH those values with the extras we learn from our role-models. So for me, becoming aware how I react to people that inspire me is just the start. How I improve what I am doing with that input is only the next step. It has to stay MY DOING… not some copycat-action. Our role-models have achieved that position because of THEIR acts, not because they copied nicely.

Watch, learn and then enrich yourself!
